Linkx Packaging Systems, specialists in the design and manufacturer of shelf-ready packaging machines, have recently delivered three shrink-wrap machines to Rowse Honey, the UK’s favourite honey supplier.
The high-speed shrink wrap machines, which have been installed at the Rowse site in Wallingford near Oxford, use the latest Allen Bradley servo control and automation technologies. They provide outstanding performance and versatility and are optimised to combine high throughput with low materials usage and minimum volume for the finished package.
The three new Linkx shrink wrappers are used by Rowse for wrapping jars of honey in trays that can contain 1 x 6 or 2 x 3 jars. They are capable of continuously producing up to 30 finished packages per minute, allowing them to maintain the high output of the plant’s manufacturing lines.
“Rowse Honey are extremely pleased with the new shrink-wrap machines purchased from Linkx. The installation went well and machine efficiencies have met our targets. We purchased three machines for delivery in our summer shutdown and have now purchased a fourth machine for installation at Christmas. The machines have contributed to a rise in OEE on each production line they have been installed into.”

The shrink wrappers delivered to Rowse Honey have been designed to include a right-angled conveyor with a pusher that accurately positions the trays in the wrapping station. They are then wrapped with a single layer of LDPE film, which is cut automatically before the packages are placed through the shrink tunnel and then through the cooling section.
With their exceptionally compact design, the new Linkx shrink-wrap machines supplied occupy a minimum of valuable factory floor space. Other key features include: an intuitive operator interface, with simple menu-driven controls for product selection, maintenance and fault-finding, Ethernet connectivity that supports remote diagnostics, and provides facilities for collecting and managing operational data.
“Rowse Honey is a well-respected manufacturer that has enjoyed continuous growth since it was set up 70 years ago thanks to its total commitment to product quality,” explains David Hayward, Managing Director of Linkx Packaging Systems. “The company needed an enhanced packaging solution for its busy production lines and we’ve provided this with the three new shrink wrappers. The high speed machines are compact, robust and easy to use and they boost production efficiency, sending savings straight to the bottom line”.
